European Union Open House

On Saturday, May 3, 2008, the European Commission Delegation and the Embassies of the EU Member States welcomed more than 57,000 visitors during the second annual European Union Open House Day.

Members of the public were invited to take a rare behind-the-scenes look at the European Embassies, many of which are among Washington's historic and architectural treasures. Each Embassy offered a unique program featuring the country's cuisine, its music and special events. For example, pictured at right is Czech Ambassador to the US, Petr Kolar, with Moravian dancers, just outside the Czech Republic's Embassy.

The 2008 EU Open House also kicked off Europe Week, a celebration of European culture across the US. For more information on Europe Week, please visit our Europe Week page, as well as our ongoing calendar of events arranged and hosted by EU Member State Embassies, the European Commission Delegation in Washington and other organizations affiliated with the EU in the United States.

More details will be posted soon. To see additional photos, please go to the 2008 Highlights page. Thank you for making the 2008 EU Open House Day a success! We look forward to seeing you at our next open house in May 2009.
